The temps today are -9 degrees; but believe it or not, spring cleaning is right around the corner.
Here are some tips for preparing to clean out your closet or garage and make the most of your storage unit:
- Get good containers: Either sturdy boxes or totes with lids.
- We recommend anything that has a liquid with the potential to leak be put in a Rubbermaid like tote to prevent damage to the floor or other items in the unit.
- Sort items by some kind of theme
- Keep groups of boxes together that have the same kinds of items in them.
- If you have a lot of containers to store: consider shelves.
- You cannot mount anything to the wall of the unit, free standing shelves help keep everything organized!
- Clearly label the containers so it’s easier to find your items!
- Fill the unit by the frequency of use for your items. I.e. Christmas and once a year items in the back, things you might use more frequently than that towards the front.
It’s worth taking the time to get your items organized before storing. It can get overwhelming to manage a unit with items haphazardly piled in!
